that I've never had to resist a rice crispy treat

Last night I decided to make another simple recipe from my Medifast cookbook. It was flank steak with a portabella summer salad (sauteed portabellas, bell peppers, and summer squash). Actually it wasn't flank steak. The recipe called for flank but the grocery store was out. The meat department man asked if I knew that this steal was pretty much the same as flank (I forget what kind it was) so I said no and took his word for it even though it looked pretty fatty, but the recipe did say to remove visible fat so I figured flank is meant to have some fat (we've always had ribeye in my house. Nom.) I trimmed as much fat as I could, rubbed it down and stuck it on the grill!

someone was spying and waiting for bits to fall on the floor

The steak was only seasoned with salt and pepper and the veggies were only seasoned with garlic and pepper and it was all pretty damn good (I did add some salt to the veggies though.. just a bit bland). While I was cooking dinner though, I was FAMISHED and I couldn't resist eating some of the cashews that I had put out in the kitchen with my "up for grabs" items for my roommates (things I can't have on Medifast). They were delicious and definitely held me over until dinner was done. I ate a few more after dinner and skipped my Medifast dessert since I felt a little guilty (very little. I love cashews.)

Today got even harder. It's a co-workers last day so we wanted to take her out to lunch. She chose Noodles and Co. and I may have panicked a little, but then I checked online and found this awesome little menu. All of the options they have under 500 calories. And while my diet isn't based on calories I though it would help me a little bit. I chose the Mediterranean salad with grilled chicken. The salad itself was only 160 calories, plus the chicken it was a total of 430 calories. Not bad right? It would have been even less had I had the will power to pick the noodles off the salad (I evicted the red onions instead).

I think the worst part about my first time eating out wasn't the desicion of what I could eat, but the decision to not go for the mound of rice crispy treats. I think rice crispy treats have to be one of my all time favorite desserts and these looked especially tasty. They were about half the size of your face and just haphazardly mushed into a scrumptious misshaped ball and wrapped in plastic. and I wanted it. But for the first time in my life I avoided the treat.

About an hour after lunch we had an office party for our Co-Worker who's leaving. We had champagne and cupcakes, and what kind of Debbie-downer would I be if I didn't participate and wish her off by indulging a little bit, right? So I did. I had about 4 oz. of Champagne and 1/3 of a chocolate cupcake which was divided among me and 2 other people working on our figures! The cupcake was freaking delicious and I wish I could have had more than this.

Oh well. Here's to trying to be good *clink*

Oh, and of all days to fall a little left of the wagon, today is my first check-in at the center. I will get weighed-in and get some new food. I'm excited and a little mad that of all days I eat and drink things I'm not supposed to. On the up-side my stomach looks a little flatter.

Until next week (I probably won't write on the weekends)... Have a great holiday weekend and wish me luck!

I think you're doing great!!! we will never reach perfection in eliminating tasty carbs and other fattening foods from our diet... you just have to keep taking it a day at a time.. and when you 'cheat' a little bit, .... forgive yourself and plan for the next time you're tempted and cheat less (or not at all)

love,
A secret admirer
